Involved? We're built by it! This curriculum was created by a team of homeschooling moms who happen to be Deaf educators, interpreters, and Deaf mentors, with degrees and training from schools like Vanderbilt and Gallaudet.
Our team includes Deaf moms raising bilingual kids at home, a Deaf Mentor who spends her days helping families connect with their Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, and our ASL lead, a professional Deaf educator who guides every sign and every cultural detail. Emilee, our Deaf signer, is the face you'll see modeling the language in our videos and books.
This is personal for us. We're not teaching signs from the outside looking in. We're a group of moms who love this language, live this culture, and want your family to feel at home in it too!

Yes! One box works for the whole family. ASL 1 is built for family-style learning, so siblings learn, play, and start signing together. That's when it works best, with no separate set needed per child.
It's designed for kids roughly 4 to 10, the sweet spot for playful, hands-on language learning. Because it's family-style, younger siblings love joining in and older kids (and parents!) pick it right up too.
About 15 to 20 minutes each, a few times a week. There's no pressure to rush. ASL 1 is built to fit into real family life, and you set the pace that works for your home.
Mostly no, and that's by design. Your child's stories, songs, and rhymes live right inside the Video Book, no internet needed, so kids can watch and review on their own anytime. The parent's quick pre-lesson signing videos are hosted online, and we offer optional culture videos online too. So internet isn't required to teach, but having it lets you get the very most out of the course.
The set isn't consumable, so there's nothing you'll use up or run out of. If you'd like peace of mind about replacing a lost piece, we offer the full curriculum as a digital add-on ($99). It lets you reprint anything you need anytime, and gives you the whole course on your device for learning on the go!
Nope, the physical set is complete on its own. The digital add-on is simply a backup: it's there if you want to reprint a piece, or take the curriculum with you on a device. Nice to have, never required.
Not at all. ASL 1 teaches real American Sign Language, the language used by the Deaf community, with correct grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context. Every sign and story was created and reviewed by Deaf artists and educators. The goal isn't a handful of words, it's a home where your family genuinely communicates.
